ABOUT THE PRESERVATION PROJECT

The Massman Theatre Preservation Project was initiated in 2023 under the leadership of the Theatre Students Association, with invaluable support from the USC School of Dramatic Arts. When students were first notified about the impending demolition of the Drama Center in early 2024, there was a profound sense of loss regarding the documentation of the rich history of student-produced work on the Massman Stage. This project seeks to ensure that the memories and contributions of former students are preserved for future generations.

This initiative aims to digitally preserve and honor the legacy of past student productions and their beloved home, the Martin Massman Theatre, formerly known as a home to countless USC School of Dramatic Arts students. The Massman Theatre had a rich history of fostering creativity and camaraderie.

The project’s mission is to provide a lasting tribute to the creative efforts and achievements of former students, ensuring that their contributions are remembered and celebrated. By creating a digital archive, the Massman Theatre Project not only safeguards the rich history of student performances but also serves as an inspiration for future generations of theatre artists at the USC School of Dramatic Arts.

The project was led by Fernando Gonzalez and Brooklyn Nelson, with guidance from Rhea Mehta, and features photography by Jacob Hollens. Additional support was provided by Micah Schneider, Veronica McFarlane, Sarah Showich, and Jenna Hamdan. The 360-camera was provided by Joseph Shea and the USC School of Dramatic Arts Video and Streaming Department.

This website is student-run by members of the Theatre Student Association and is not affiliated with USC School of Dramatic Arts.
